# Agent Deck — Beta

Run `/agent-deck` to open custom agent definitions and session tasks in one pane. Write a task, choose an agent, then click **Start agent** or focus the button and press Enter. Merely opening the pane, selecting an agent, or entering a task never launches work.

The video feature appears at [00:20–00:29](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUuFvL1lK4k&t=20s).

## What it does

- Lists custom agent definitions exposed by the session's context breakdown, including project, user, and plugin definitions. The engine does not include all built-in types in that listing, so a general-purpose starter is supplied separately. Definitions unavailable to the current session cannot be enumerated.
- Lists session agents from `$.agent.list()`, including running and completed tasks, and refreshes after spawns and turn completions.
- Opens a pane on terminal, Desktop, and VS Code surfaces where Input and Select controls are supported. The host decides whether the pane docks beside the transcript or appears inline.
- Launches exactly one `$.agent.spawn()` for each explicit Start action with a non-empty task. A launch in progress cannot be started again; accepted tasks clear the draft.

## Limits

Starting an agent performs real work under your normal Claude Code permissions and can consume model usage. This mod does not bypass permissions or restrict agents to read-only work: describe the task you actually want. A failed or uncertain launch is reported and never retried automatically. Check session tasks before manually starting another after an uncertain response.

Agent definitions and session tasks are refreshed on events and the Refresh button, not a background polling timer. No task drafts or agent records are written to disk by the plugin. Hot reload resets the draft and selected type, then refreshes the session roster. This is a session view, not an archive of all agents from every project.

## Compatibility and verification

Beta 0.2.0, checked on 22 October 2026 with an isolated Claude Code **2.1.307**. The native `claude plugin validate` and `claude plugin test` commands pass. The tests mount the plugin's UI in Claude Code's real mods runtime with stubbed session/model operations; they do not invoke a paid model or execute tasks. Live authenticated terminal/Desktop sessions and visual pointer hover have **not** been manually verified. The mods API changes between versions; use the declarations your installed build generates as its authority. Claude Code first documented mods in 2.1.287; 2.1.307 is the tested version for this download.

Validation reports a missing catalog icon. These source downloads have not been submitted to Anthropic's plugin directory.

## Load the downloaded folder

1. Extract the download to a directory you control and review `hooks/register.js`.
2. Check your installed version with `claude --version`.
3. Start a session with `claude --plugin-dir /absolute/path/to/agent-deck`.
4. Run `claude plugin validate /absolute/path/to/agent-deck` and `claude plugin test /absolute/path/to/agent-deck` to check against your build.

For Desktop, load the folder through the plugin-directory settings supported by your current build. The official video describes global settings; the exact setting varies with the installed release. The terminal command above is the reproducible loading path tested here.

Removing the `--plugin-dir` option on the next session unloads the mod. No external service, npm dependency, extra API key, project file mutation, or system configuration change is required by this plugin. Normal Claude Code access and billing still apply.
